Testogen massively improved their formula at the beginning of 2018. I like the new formula a lot more, especially the addition of Magnesium and the updated Zinc levels.
So, being me, I decided to put it to the test.
Below you can find my personal results from using Testogen PLUS a full scientific analysis – where I break down each ingredient and look to see if there is proof backing up its proficiency as a test booster.
Here’s a quick summary of my review:
- The new ingredients formula is much more effective than it was and makes it my new no.1 rated test booster.
- It contains all my most important ingredients that have been proven to boost testosterone levels in multiple studies (DAA, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin D).
- The ingredients and dosage levels are all perfectly safe – no risk of side effects.
- This is my best overall test booster but if you are over 50 and looking specifically to increase libido and daily energy levels then I still prefer Prime Male.
Conclusion: I really like the new Testogen formula, this is my top test booster right now. If you are looking for a supplement to help you gain muscle, burn fat and recover between workouts – Testogen is a great choice.
When reviewing any testosterone booster, the ingredients formula is always the first place I look.
I am looking for ingredients that:
- Are backed up by multiple scientific studies that prove their effectiveness in boosting testosterone levels.
- Occur in the right dosage levels to be both safe and effective
- Are completely natural and non-toxic.

The two biggest changes in the new formula are:
- The addition of Magnesium which is crucial in maintaining healthy testosterone levels.
- Less Zinc – the previous dosage (72mg) was a bit high for my liking and presented some potential safety concerns. The new dosage (10mg) is much better – it is within the daily recommended dosage so their are no safety concerns while still being enough to have a significant impact on testosterone levels.
They have also added a few more ingredients and changed some of the dosage levels – and I am very happy with the changes they have made. You can see all the new ingredients in my Testogen review below.
D-Aspartic Acid – 2352 mg
Right off the bat, I can tell you that this is a very potent level of D-aspartic acid. I like to see this as DAA is definitely the most impactful ingredient to look for in a test booster. I can tell from this high level of DAA that this product is aimed more at the muscle building market than at guys with low t (as opposed to something like Prime Male). This is because DAA is very useful for muscle growth and helps the body to use testosterone better.
In one study an experiment was performed on 23 men enrolled in an infertility program. 3.2g of D-aspartate was administered to them daily for 12 days with blood samples being collected both before and after each treatment. The results were significant increases of testosterone in 20 out of 23 of the subjects, these levels did not decline until about 3 days after the treatment ended.
In another study, a supplement containing 1.6g of d-aspartic acid and 0.4g of L-aspartic acid was administered to men between the ages of 25 and 40. The participants took the supplement daily for 20 days with food at lunch. Eight out of the ten men had a significant increase in testosterone levels.
Magnesium – 200mg
Magnesium is one of my favorite ingredients to see in a testosterone booster. It has a unique function in that it helps to lower the amount of sex hormone binding globulin in your body. SHBG binds to and uses up over 60% of testosterone produced by the body. So the less SHBG you have, the more testosterone is available for functions like muscle growth. So although Magnesium doesn’t directly increase the production of testosterone in your body. It does help your body to use more of the testosterone you are already producing.
Nettle Leaf Extract – 40 mg
Nettle Leaf extract actually plays a very similar role as Magnesium. It contains compounds know as Lignans which can bind to your SHBG in place of testosterone. This frees up more testosterone to be used by the body.
Red Ginseng – 40 mg
This ingredient has been proven to increase testosterone levels. In one study on sixty-six young men, there was evidence of strong correlations between Panax ginseng intake and increased free testosterone levels.
Fenugreek – 40 mg
Fenugreek certainly seems to help a bit in raising testosterone levels although interestingly seems to be more important in helping to maintain testosterone levels. So it works well in conjunction with ingredients like D-aspartic acid which would raise testosterone levels, Fenugreek would then work to help the body maintain those higher t levels. In one study 60 healthy males aged between 25 and 52 took 600mg of Fenugreek extract over a six week period. At the end of the test period, all the subjects had t levels on the upper end of healthy limits. It was concluded by the researchers that Fenugreek helps to maintain healthy t levels. Fenugreek has been particularly effective in helping to improve lean muscle mass and help with weight loss.
Zinc – 10 mg
Behind DAA, Zinc is probably one of my favorite ingredients to see in a test booster. It has been clinically proven to boost testosterone levels. 32 male cyclists were given 30mg of zinc per day for 4 weeks. The serum testosterone levels of this group were significantly higher at the end of 4 weeks than the group who did not take Zinc supplements.
I am very happy with the new dosage level of Zinc – 10 mg is perfectly safe while still being effective.
Vitamin B6 – 20 mg
I am pretty meh about Vitamin B. That is to say there is no hard proof that Vitamin B increases the production of testosterone. However, there is proof to say that deficiencies in Vitamin B can lead to lower testosterone levels. So basically, if you have a Vitamin B deficiency this will help, if not then this won’t do anything. No harm in taking 20 mg and so you can feel completely fine about that.
Vitamin D3 – 50 mcg
Good. Finally, Vitamin D. Vitamin D is one of my top ingredients along with Zinc, D-aspartic acid and Magnesium. 3332 IU of Vitamin D was given to 200 men daily over the course of a whole year. 163 of those men finished the study and there were significant increases in free testosterone levels.
Further studies have actually shown that Vitamin D actually helps by retaining testosterone in the body and stopping the conversion of some testosterone into estrogen, which is a normal process. So Vitamin D helps the body to retain testosterone rather than straight up produce it. This is why it works so well with ingredients such as DAA or Zinc which help the body produce more testosterone. Vitamin D then helps the body retain that increased testosterone.
50 mcg is 100% of the recommended daily intake. Vitamin D is one the most common deficiencies in men which is often the cause of low t levels, that’s why I like to see healthy dosages of Vitamin D.
Vitamin K1 – 20 mcg
This is a new ingredient in the updated formula of Testogen. Studies show that Vitamin K helps the body to absorb Vitamin D at a higher rate. So this is essentially a supplemental ingredient included to enhance the impact of the Vitamin D.
Boron – 20 mg
Boron is a potent test booster and I am glad to see this has been included in the new formula. In one study testosterone levels rose by 28% among a group of men who took 10 mg of Boron per day for a whole week.
Bioperine – 5 mg
The active ingredient in Bioperine is Piperine or black pepper extract. This ingredient helps the body absorb all the other ingredients more successfully. It boosts the bioavailability of other ingredients contained in Testogen and greatly increases the effectiveness of the formula.
Thoughts on Ingredients Formula:
Testogen’s new formula is far superior to the old one. All the ingredients are backed up by scientific studies and they occur in safe and effective dosages. They have hit the mark with the new formula and taken their place as one of the top products currently on the market.
Testogen Dosage – How to Take it
Essentially you take four tablets a day as often as you want. I highly recommend cycling any testosterone booster with three weeks on, one week off. Then take a whole month off every six months or so. This is so your body doesn’t get used to it and you don’t get diminishing returns over time.
Potential Testogen Side Effects?
All the ingredients are natural and safe, the only danger here is the high levels of Zinc, this can cause headaches and nausea. If you notice either of these symptoms, then please stop taking this supplement immediately. Better yet, get your doctor’s recommendations on how much zinc you should be taking before taking this supplement. I could not find any reports of Testogen side effects online so I think you are probably pretty safe.

Conclusions & Recommendations
The updated ingredients formula is fantastic. It’s not quite as complete as something like Prime Male – but that is because Testogen is mostly aimed at the fitness and muscle building markets while Prime Male is an overall vitality and anti-aging supplement.
Testogen actually has higher levels of D-aspartic acid than anything else I have seen so will work great to assist you in your workouts. So if you are looking to increase strength, bulk up, burn fat, increase recovery time between workouts and boost energy at the gym then this is a great choice.
